DEADLINE TO APPLY IS DECEMBER 31, 2025
Please read through this information and instructions before submitting your application. NSF Travel Grants are reimbursement grants. Reimbursements will be sent out after the meeting and can take up to 90 days. These grants only cover the cost of transportation to and from the conference and the cost of meeting registration. Travel during the conference is not eligible and will not be reimbursed. Lodging and hotel expenses are not covered by this grant and will not be reimbursed. Membership fees are not covered by this grant and will not be reimbursed.
Eligibility: In order to apply for this grant, the NSF requires that you must: - be participating in the meeting (e.g. presenting a paper, chairing a session, being a commentator for a session) - be a graduate student, independent scholar, or recent PhD (a recent PhD is a degree received in the last five years) - be a U.S. citizen or enrolled in a U.S. institution If you do not meet all of these requirements, you are not eligible for the NSF Travel Grant. Other forms of travel funding may be available. Please contact your host society for additional information.
NSF Travel Grant Usage: - Airfare should follow the Fly America Act guidelines; all air travel funded by the federal government is required to use a "U.S. flag" air carrier service. Code share information can be found at: https://www.gsa.gov/policy-regulations/policy/travel-management-policy-overview/fly-america-act. For airfare, a receipt will include airline name and proof of purchase (e.g., your name and the last four digits of your credit card). Itineraries are not sufficient and will not be reimbursed. Flight credits/point/miles are not eligible. - Travel grants do not cover transportation costs during the meeting, food, or lodging. Rideshare/taxi/public transportation from the conference location to your accommodation or a restaurant are not eligible and will not be reimbursed.
You will be responsible for filling out reimbursement forms and providing receipts for all claimed expenses. A link to the reimbursement form will be emailed to you after the meeting. Travel grants will be disbursed after the meeting in the form of reimbursements. The process is not automated and receipts for all grant recipients must be certified before reimbursements can be sent out. Maximum awards: $750 for domestic travel and $1,000 for international travel. All amounts entered into the form must be in U.S. Dollars. If necessary, use Oanda's currency converter: https://www.oanda.com/currency-converter/en/?from=EUR&to=USD&amount=1.
We encourage applications from those without access to additional funds for whom conference attendance would be financially difficult without the NSF travel grant. We routinely receive more grant requests than we can fulfill. Submitting this application does not guarantee reimbursement of your travel costs.
