ASEH recognizes service and achievement in environmental history through the four awards described below. Click on the award below to obtain the instructions for nominating a candidate or project.

Distinguished Scholar Award

Given every year to an individual who has contributed significantly to environmental history scholarship; membership in ASEH is not required. Current members of ASEH's executive committee are not eligible while they are serving.

Lisa Mighetto Distinguished Service Award

Given every year to an individual who has contributed significantly to the development of ASEH as an organization; membership in ASEH is required. Current members of the Executive Committee are not eligible while they are serving.

Public Outreach Awards

ASEH’s Advisory Board on Professional Development and Public Engagement announces the introduction of two new awards recognizing excellence in public humanities and environmental history. 

Each of these awards will be presented every other year, beginning with the Project Award in 2014. This year, we are accepting nominations for both the Public Outreach Project Award.

Public Outreach Project Award

Presented every two years to an environmental history project that engages the public. 

The next deadline for submissions will be in November 2025.

Distinguished Career in Public Environmental History

Presented every two years to an individual who has promoted environmental history to the public over time. We are now accepting applications for this award.
