ASEH Presents Call for Proposals

ASEH is excited to announce a new initiative that will enhance our virtual programming in 2025: ASEH Presents. ASEH Presents will provide dedicated space for sharing research and replaces the online component of our spring conference. It will consist of fifteen seventy-five minute sessions scheduled from mid-January through February.

ASEH Presents welcomes proposals for individual presentations or full panels. There will be no specific thematic focus and presentations may span all geographical and temporal boundaries. We encourage proposals that highlight the variety of recent research in environmental history and related disciplines, especially sessions that use innovative formats such as GIS, StoryMaps, or other emerging technologies that take advantage of the online environment. We also hope this virtual format will provide a space for members who might be unable to attend in-person conferences to submit proposals and tune in to sessions.

ASEH Presents welcomes proposals that emphasize research at all stages of development, from idea formulation to recent publication. We will accept traditional panels, roundtables, individual papers, or “lighting rounds” of presentations limited to five minutes and five slides. We seek proposals from established scholars and proposals that highlight undergraduate or graduate research. Also welcome are proposals emphasizing public-facing research such as collaboration with public agencies or community groups, or virtual field trips that highlight cooperation between scholars and communities.

All proposals should take issues of diversity and inclusivity seriously and carefully consider representation across institutions, genders, career stages, race, and geography in the composition of their panels. The ASEH Presents Program Committee also encourages those developing panels on topics focused on historically marginalized groups to build relationships with scholars of diverse backgrounds and give space to these scholars in the panels. We look forward to receiving panels, papers, and alternative sessions that show commitment to the principles of disability rights, inclusivity, and universal accessibility.

The ASEH Presents submission process is entirely separate from the in-person conference to be held in Pittsburgh in April, but will follow similar guidelines for submission, evaluation, and presentation.

Submissions will be evaluated by the ASEH Presents Program Committee. Panels and papers selected for ASEH Presents will have the option to negotiate their own presentation time in January and February

The ASEH has no plans to record or archive any sessions, though organizers and presenters may make recordings, if the requisite permissions from all participants are secured.
