2020 conference equity undergraduate student grants

ASEH created these fellowships to recognize undergraduate achievement in environmental scholarship with a historical perspective and to enhance ASEH’s connections with the city hosting its annual meeting. To be eligible, the applicant must be a registered undergraduate student from an underrepresented group who attends an institution of higher education in the host city or wider metropolitan region and has engaged in environmental history research, preferably on topics pertaining to the host city or local area. The grant includes the conference registration fee, a one-year ASEH student membership, and a single payment of $500. Up to two grants will be awarded. The recipients of the grant must prepare posters on their research to be included in the ASEH poster session at our conference in Ottawa, Canada (March 25-28, 2020). The recipients also will be recognized in the award ceremony during the conference in Ottawa.

The ASEH Diversity Committee will review the applications and select two recipients. Students enrolled at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Tribal Colleges and Universities, and Hispanic Serving Institutions are strongly encouraged to apply, although the Diversity Committee will consider applications from students from any underrepresented group.

To apply, please submit the following three items:

    • Two-page statement (500 words) explaining your project and how you intend to use the research funds.
    • A c.v. no more than two pages in length.
    • A letter of recommendation from faculty member (can be sent separately by the faculty member)

All items for the Local Undergraduate Equity Student Grants must be submitted electronically to david.spatz@aseh.org by November 15, 2019.
