Event Description
Louisiana's coast is in crisis. Since the 1930s, it has shrunk over 2,000 miles, now averaging a loss equivalent to a football field of land per day. This speaker series reflects on the historical and current complications faced by coastal communities in Louisiana and the ways that scholars have attempted to study, assist, or mitigate the effects of this coastal crisis. Our third speaker in this series is Professor Emeritus of the LSU Department of Geography & Anthropology Craig Colten will speak on the "State of Disaster: Does Coastal Restoration Neglect People?" from 4 PM - 5 PM at the Roy House on the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus. Refreshments will be provided. The Coast in Crisis Speaker Series is sponsored by the J. J. Burdin & Helen B. Burdin Professorship in Louisiana Studies held by Dr. Liz Skilton and the Center for Louisiana Studies.
