Event Description
Louisiana's coast is in crisis. Since the 1930s, it has shrunk over 2,000 miles, now averaging a loss equivalent to a football field of land per day. This speaker series reflects on the historical and current complications faced by coastal communities in Louisiana and the ways that scholars have attempted to study, assist, or mitigate the effects of this coastal crisis. Our final speaker in this speaker series is Associate Professor of Curriculum & Instruction and Paul Burdin/BORSF Endowed Professor Heather Stone who will speak on "Forced Retreat: Stories of the Jean Charles Choctaw Nation" and show her documentary film from 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM at the Roy House. Lunch will be provided. The Coast in Crisis Speaker Series is sponsored by the J. J. Burdin & Helen B. Burdin Professorship in Louisiana Studies held by Dr. Liz Skilton and the Center for Louisiana Studies.
