Event Description
This is the online version of the physical CODE RED exhibition Maine Historical Society (MHS) installed March 17--December 30, 2023 in Portland, Maine. This online exhibition, which includes a 3-D virtual tour, is accessible on Maine Memory Network 24/7 through 2024 and beyond. Co-curated by Tilly Laskey, MHS curator and Dr. Darren J. Ranco (Penobscot) Professor of Anthropology and Chair of Native American Programs, University of Maine. CODE RED examines the climate and biodiversity crisis by reuniting selected collections from the former Portland Society of Natural History, alongside MHS historic items and contemporary art. The exhibition delves into museum collecting practices, Indigenous Science, Western scientific methods, environmental justice, animals, lands, and cultures.
